Motswaferé grew up in a village: to a single mother, and 5 older siblings; his world was shaped by realities and struggles of his village. He grew up listening to kwasa kwasa, artists such as Franco, and also, Brenda Fassie, Spencer man and the likes of Miriam Makeba. He began performing live at the age of 17, he made his first concert of 45 people in Mater Spei College, playing his self-taught keyboard and 8 self-penned songs.

Motswaferé fell in love with performing after he saw his two heroes Michael Jackson and Prince on television in the year 1999, he immediately saw his future as a musician that Is not apologetic about his art.

In 2016 he completed his Four years degree in Public Relations. Photography and  French at the University Of Botswana. In Justifying why he doesn’t want a 9 to 5 job, he says that he is a Creative mind, and he believes his music will pull him to his destiny, he believes that he would lose his sense of self if he works in an office , hence pushing hard in his ability of music and creativity.

2012

 

In 2012 Motswaferé auditioned for the local singing competition, My Star Botswana. His first performance on the national television saw him as the most controversial singer with a peculiar style, raw vocals and a dress code that caused the nation to debate. He was the most talked about, he earned a spot in the Botswana Daily news Paper as the ‘My Star Maker’. He came in third position in the competition.

 

 

In the same year he was hot commodity, all artists wanted to work with him. He made a song with the talented hip hop mogul A.T.I and Pop award winning Star Spiza. The song ‘Promises’ was an instant hit, that year he toured with them to promote the single.

 

Also in the same year he officially opened the BIUST University of sciences, as the only performer Headlining.

In August 2012,

Same year, Motswaferé was selected to perform with a renowned Indian {world} pianist Stephen Devassy, at the Saralawa Concert held in SSKB camp.

 

 

2013

 

Motswaferé signs a two year contract with OFFCAMPUS EVENTS, to manage him. Motswaferé headlined Fete De LA Musique twice, in 2013 and 2014. It is a big festival by the French embassy in Botswana.

2013, he performed at Kast’s Album Launch, featuring two internationally established artists, A.K.A and Da Les.

2014, Motswaferé started writing for his album, about his past, his pain, reality and a change of life direction. He felt he has a purpose to fulfill in life. For hobbies fulltime, he wrote music. He even made his own beats and compiled African sounds to make a diverse album.

The whole year of 2014, he spent writing and had a bigger plan to release an album that year, but because of financial constraints, it was not possible, plus he also wanted to finish his degree and keep that as the main forcus. The backup plan.

In 2015 Motswafere got a call from Canada, Dave Thompson (former South African Idols Judge and Head of Sony A&R) to say that he heard his Parralle single and he would love to work with him as the Only Motswana in South African show Coke Studio. The show featured the greats such as Oliver Mtudzi and Cassper Nyovest. The show was a success with Motswaferé’s billboards over Eight major towns in South Africa. The experience was the height of Motswafere’s career, and it is documented.

 

The show aired on E.TV Africa and his episode was on the 26 of October 2015. The live performance can be watched on YouTube as well as on the coke studio ZA website. Motswaferé was the only musician who was non South African, and

2016

Graduating At the University of Botswana, in October 2016, After four years, in His Public Relations. Photography and French; the 23 year old proved that he has got brains. He passed his form five with 48 points as well, and form 3 with a starling A. So this was validation that he is an educated musician.

Motswaferé has worked with Cresta President Hotel as the face of Elites Nites, an event which ran for a successful year of 2016. His interpersonal communication skills were showcased there as he hosted the prestigious event with such ora. He has also worked with top talent unearthing entities such as Fashion Without Boarders Africa in the casting panel and preparation for the fashion show.

Motswafere constantly visits the schools he attended in Matsiloje Primary school and Matsiloje Juniour School to give them inspirational talks; because in 2007 he was one of two students who passed with first class after 15 years of No first class in the school. The school patrons always hold him as a sign of possibility, as he is a shining star from the rural place Lephaneng.

Motswafere also reels in the spirit of volunteerism, sometimes he judges charity beauty pageants. He has judged Miss Patayamatebele, Miss Bonington, Miss UB, Miss Tlokweng and Also Miss Mater Spei College. Recently (in 2016) he was part of the coordination for the raising of P 25,000;  FNB bank For Charity fashion show, which all proceeds went to charity.

Locally, In Botswana,The young Musicians has Co-written for Samantha Mogwe. He has Worked With ATI, and Award Winning Musician Spiza Valentino. He has also worked With Producers, Lif A Man, Dublin. He is looking into working more with Local producers and artists, for the success of rapport and solidarity in the growing industry of Botswana. Not forgetting his collaboration with Serge Kabisoso a Congolese International  Model who is also a founder of FASHION WITHOUT BOARDERS  AFRICA.

FUTURE. 2017 BEYOND

​

‘The sky is the limit and failure is no threat to me’ says Motswaferé. He performs with a full band, and has found his niche in the genre that he calls Afro Soul Funk; he also believes that music is a language. He is currently recording his debut album after four years of writing and placing his sound. In this particular record he will sing in two international languages namely, French and English, and also in African languages, Tswana, Zulu and Ndebele, as his father is Zulu and his Mother a Motswana.

Life has more to offer for the talented 24 year old musician, his future looks bright, he wants to sear and pierce the market of the world, he wants to collaborate with artists both locally and internationally, as well as signing a distribution deal with top distribution companies, such as Sony, Universal and EMI.

He also sees himself headlining shows and being of great help and contribution to the LGBTI community, as well as raising awareness on his Lupus disease condition. Which he explains was such a down moment in his life.
